Paper Travel: Moving Vistas: Sixty Observations of Taiwan in Motion
This is a record of illustrator Yu Teng's observations of Taiwan. Her illustrations faithfully chronicle the old lifestyles and overlooked corners worth remembering in this age of rapid change. The first observations were of turning wheels. Taiwan is a land of movement; all over the island people come and go, hasty and hurrying to make a living. Some choose to chase their dreams on four wheels, giving new forms to commonplace vehicles. A car or a truck may be a little shop in and of itself, bridging the gap between town and country, filling needs, selling convenience, dealing in intangible emotion as well as tangible goods. Teng chose 60 scenes of motion worth remembering, all painstaking portraits of daily work. The power of images is harnessed to show the beauty of life on this island, and to pay tribute to the workers giving it their all.
