The Sound of Colors
On her 15th birthday, a blind girl decides to venture out alone into the city. She carefully boards a subway train, using her memories and sense of touch to imagine the world, which is dark to her, and gaining a new sense of direction and vitality. One of the best known of all of Jimmy's illustrated books, this story has been turned into a film and work of musical theater.
About the Author
Jimmy Liao began creating illustrated books in 1998, expanding the readership of picture books beyond children to general audiences. Since devoting himself to picture books, he has published more than 50 works in all. His books have been translated into 21 languages. He has also created original works for British, American, and Japanese publishers. Many of Jimmy’s works have been turned into musicals, television dramas, and films. A FISH WITH A SMILE won the prize for best short film at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival. Studio Voice magazine named Jimmy as one of Asia’s “most creative 55 people,” and the Discovery Channel picked Jimmy as one of six outstanding Taiwanese in its show Portraits Taiwan. Jimmy’s works have won several Golden Tripods, the Belgian literary prize Le Prix Versele, a top prize from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, and been nominated for the Swedish Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
